These sports cars will still be available with manual transmissions in 2025

Cars with manual transmissions are an endangered species. In the meantime, the vast majority of models are sold exclusively with automatic transmissions, even if they are pure sports cars.

There are several reasons for this, and they are primarily related to the search for maximum efficiency as well as the undeniable convenience of the automatic transmission. Especially when driving in the city or in traffic jams. And yet, in 2025, there are those who still resist and provide the classic three-pedal configuration. So here's an updated list of performance models that can still be bought with a manual transmission...

BMW M2

BMW M2

There are several BMW sports cars with gear levers and clutches. One of them is the M2. The second generation of the Bavarian coupe confirms the six-speed manual transmission, which is available as an option to get the most out of the 480 hp 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder that accelerates the car from 0 to 100 km/h in around four seconds. The base price? 77,500 euros.

In addition to the M2, there is also the M3 with manual transmission, but this is only available for the 480 hp base model with rear-wheel drive. For the Competition model, on the other hand, only the eight-speed automatic transmission is in the range.

By the way, the M3 is the only sports sedan in this list that has a manual transmission. The only exception comes from Honda. However, with a completely different positioning. However, if you are interested in the BMW, you should be aware that the check you have to write is not exactly small: at least 95,100 euros are required.

Also part of the BMW family is the 480 hp "basic" M4, which is the only one in the range that can be ordered with a six-speed manual transmission. The Competition, Competition M xDrive and CS xDrive models all have an 8-speed automatic transmission. Here, too, the price is demanding: from 97,100 euros.

BMW Z4

In the Z4 series, there are two versions with manual transmission. These are the entry-level sDrive 20i variant with 197 hp (from 50,700 euros) and the iconic M40i (both rear-wheel drive) with the 340 hp 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. However, the combination with the manual transmission is not a gift: it starts at 70,200 euros.

Caterham Seven

Caterham 7

Few sports cars can be as simple as the Caterham Seven. The small English car with a length of less than 3.4 meters, a height of 1.10 meters and a total weight always less than one ton is only available with a manual transmission. There are several versions to choose from. The Seven 170 with a 0.7-liter Suzuki engine with 84 hp, the more aggressive Seven 340 with a 2.0-liter Ford engine and 174 hp and the Seven 485 with 237 hp. Thrills are guaranteed in any case. Prices start at a relaxed 41,644 euros.

Dallara Stradale

If you've won the lottery and like to hit the track, then the Dallara Stradale is a great choice. The Emilian sports car - available in Barchetta, Spider and Coupe body variants - is equipped with a 2.3-liter Ford engine with 400 hp, which, together with a dry weight of just 855 kg, promises a lot of fun. It is available with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, and a 6-speed automatic can be requested as an option. The starting price is 195,175 euros.

Ford Focus ST X

Ford Focus ST X

The Focus ST X is truly no-frills, with a 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine delivering 280bhp to the front wheels alone. Thanks to the 6-speed manual transmission, the sportier Focus, which is also available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, stops the clock from 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. It starts at 43,400 euros. But not for long, because Focus will also be discontinued this year.

Ford Mustang

The new generation of America's most famous muscle car is also available in the USA and Europe with a 6-speed manual transmission. Here, the gear stick and clutch can be connected to the 5.0 V8 of the GT, Convertible and Dark Horse versions, with the first two Mustang producing 446 hp and the last 454 hp. If you prefer an automatic, Ford will satisfy you with a 10-speed gearbox. Prices start at 59,900 euros in Germany.

Gordon Murray T.33

The latest creature of British engineer Gordon Murray ("father" of the McLaren F1) is the T.33, a two-seater sports car that can be ordered with a coupe and spider body. Under the hood is a 3.9-liter V12 with 617 hp and a six-speed manual transmission, like the larger (and more powerful) T.50. More than 1.5 million euros are due.

If the T.33 isn't enough for you, you can also check out the T.50. Here there is a 3.9-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, which produces 663 hp in the "normal" version, or 711 hp in the Niki Lauda variant, which is even more extreme. The price list here starts at 3 million euros.

Honda Civic Type R

Even more radical than the Ford Focus ST X is the Civic Type R, whose new generation remains true to the 6-speed manual transmission. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, on the other hand, has been increased to 329 hp, which enables a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 275 km/h. In short, the recipe is the right one for fun on the road and on the track. The price list starts at 58,900 euros.

Lotus Emira

There is also an Englishman in this small group of sports cars with manual transmissions, and that is the Lotus Emira. The mid-engined coupe, which in its top-of-the-range version uses its 3.5-liter supercharged V6 to unleash 405 hp at the rear.

The gearbox, as mentioned, is a mechanical 6-speed gearbox, with which it reaches 290 km/h and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. Unfortunately, it is currently not configurable and is only available in limited quantities at the Lotus Centers.

Mazda MX-5

Whether as a soft-top version with a soft top or as an RF with a hardtop, the MX-5 will also be available in 2025 with a 6-speed manual transmission (alternatively, there is a 6-speed automatic for some models). There are two engines: the 1.5 with 132 hp or the 2.0 with 184 hp. In both cases, the low weight of the car (approx. 1,000 - 1,100 kg) ensures a direct and engaging driving experience. Prices start at 33,190 euros.

Pagani Utopia

Pagani Utopia

The second most expensive piece in this list is the Pagani Utopia, the dream supercar costing over 2.5 million euros. Unlike many competitors in this price range, the Utopia retains the manual 7-speed gearbox and pairs it with a colossal 6.0-liter V12 twin-turbo with 864 horsepower.

Porsche 911

Porsche 911 GT3

There are several 911s that are currently available with a 6-speed manual transmission. From the Carrera T (also as a convertible) with 394 hp to the 510 hp GT3. The latter can be ordered with the Touring package, which makes the car appear a little more "sober" without a fat rear wing. For collectors, on the other hand, there was the S/T with 525 hp and a base price of just under 300,000 euros. For the Carrera T, the list starts at 141,700 euros. The GT3 costs at least 209,000 euros.

Toyota GR Yaris

Toyota GR Yaris

The second generation of the GR Yaris was boosted to 280 hp and brought with it the introduction of the new 8-speed automatic transmission. But if you prefer to stick to the classics, you can still order the Toyota with the 6-speed manual transmission, knowing full well that there are no other cars like this: less than four meters long, all-wheel drive and a (relatively) low weight of around 1.2 tons. The base price is a steep 49,900 euros.

Toyota GR Supra

An old-fashioned coupe with an iconic name for JDM fans: that's the Toyota Supra. However, only the GR version with the 3.0-liter R6 from BMW and 340 hp with a 6-speed manual transmission are available. These variants sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. From 69,850 euros.
